Trials of Judgment is a journal-style book with a leather cover, roughly as thick as a closed fist<ref name=aa1-1>''Sufficiently Advanced Magic'' Chapter 1</ref>. It has "Trials of Judgment" written on the cover<ref name=aa1-2>''Sufficiently Advanced Magic'' Chapter 2</ref>. It does not give off an aura detectable by lesser identification spells<ref name=aa2-14>''On the Shoulders of Titans'' Chapter 14</ref>, and the enchantments are in the inside of the binding<ref name=aa2-23>''On the Shoulders of Titans'' Chapter 23</ref>.  It is linked to an identical book, causing anything written in one to be transcribed to the other{{citation needed}}. It has a limited range, but the only time this range limit was reached was when Corin was outside the country, so it is presumably large<ref name=aa3-3>''The Torch that Ignites the Stars'' Chapter 3</ref>.

== History ==

Trials of Judgment was in the first room of Corin's judgment, where he took it, along with a quill and various other items<ref name=aa1-1 />. Throughout his judgment, it gives him information about his current room<ref name=aa1-2 />, and he discovers that he can communicate with "[[The Voice of the Tower]]" through it<ref name=aa1-4>''Sufficiently Advanced Magic'' Chapter 4</ref>. Corin uses the book to periodically communicate with the Voice of the Tower, who he later determines to be his brother, Tristan Cadence<ref name=aa1-e>''Sufficiently Advanced Magic'' Epilogue</ref>.

During his climb into the tower to find Tristan, he slightly damages the book when using it as the basis for a tracking spell<ref name=aa2-23 />. Once he finds Tristan, he discovers that his book is one of multiple sets of linked books that Tristan possesses<ref name=aa2-23>''On the Shoulders of Titans'' Chapter 23</ref>. Those known to possess a copy of Trials of Judgment include Corin, [[Laura Lyran]]<ref name=aa2-23 />, and [[Yunika Lambert]]<ref name=aa2-21>''On the Shoulders of Titans'' Chapter 21</ref>.
