Viewing a memory crystal typically requires a memory spell to be cast on the recipient while they are holding the crystal, although many of them have the spell built in, to be activated by a command phrase, such as "view". Additionally, the viewer will be incapacitated for the duration of the memory<ref name="aa1-9" />.
